Mild heatwave likely to continue

A mild heatwave sweeping over several parts of the country may continue in the coming days, forecasts Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

In a regular weather bulletin, the Met Office (BMD) on Sunday said a mild heatwave was sweeping over Sylhet division and the districts of Rangamati, Feni, Noakhali, Chandpur, Rangpur, Khulna & Jashore and it might continue.

However, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions, according to the forecast.

Regarding the synoptic situation in the area, the BMD said the well-marked low over Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh moved northwards, weakened into a low and become unimportant.

Trough of low lied over West Bengal and adjoining area, it added.

Rainfall activity was likely to increase by Monday, said the Met Office.

The country’s maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 37.2 degrees Celsius at Rangamati in the Chattogram division and the minimum temperature of 22.6 degrees Celsius was recorded at Tetulia in the Rangpur division.
