Mind Aid director, NIMH registrar sent to jail in ASP murder trial

A Dhaka court on Friday sent Mind Aid Psychiatry and De-Addiction Hospital Director Fatema Khatun and National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Registrar Dr Abdullah Al Mamun to jail in a case filed over the murder of Senior Assistant Superintendent (ASP) of Police Anisul Karim Shipon.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid passed the order after the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced the accused before the court and prayed to keep in jail until the investigation is completed.

Earlier on November 17, a Dhaka court placed Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, on a 2-day remand for his alleged involvement in the death of Senior ASP Anisul Karim Shipon.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order on Tuesday (November 17) after the investigation officer sought 10 days' remand for the accused.

Earlier on that day, Dr Abdullah Al Mamun was arrested in the case filed over the death of ASP Anisul Karim Shipon.

On the other hand, on November 15, a Dhaka court placed Fatema Khatun, on four-day remand in a case lodged over the death of senior ASP Anisul Karim.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah passed the order on Sunday (November 15).

So far, 12 people have been arrested in the case including the director of Mind Aid Hospital Neaz Morshed.

The other 10 arrestees are - the hospital's marketing manager Arif Mahmud, coordinator Redwan Sabbir, kitchen chef Masud, pharmacist Md Tanvir Hasan; ward boys Jobayer Hossain, Tanim Mollah, Sajib Chowdhury, Ashim, Liton Ahmed, and Saiful Islam Polash.

According to the case statement, Anisul had been suffering from mental illness and was brought to Mind Aid for treatment at around 11am on November 9. 

The accused forcefully took the victim to the observation room of the hospital and beat him repeatedly, a CCTV camera footage showed.

Also, the hospital staff informed that Anisul had fainted. And when the police officer's relatives took him to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, he was declared dead.

Later, Anisul's father filed a case with Adabor police station against 15 people.
