Mirpur-10 metro rail station resumed its operation on Tuesday, almost 88 days after it was vandalised during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 19.

Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Mohammad Abdur Rouf confirmed it to the media, reports BSS.

Talking to newsmen at the Mirpur-10 metro rail station, road transport and bridges adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan said Tk 1.25 crore has been spent to repair the Mirpur-10 metro rail station. The authorities replaced some damaged equipment here with unused ones from the other two stations, he added.

The equipment will be returned to the two stations, which the authorities brought from there, he said, adding that not only this, the metro authorities have used some spare parts to repair the Mirpur-10 station, the adviser added.

He said the total cost for repairing the Kazipara and Mirpur-10 metro rail stations is expected to reach approximately Tk 18.86 crore.

Earlier, Kazipara station which was also vandalised during the July students-people uprising resumed operation on September 20 after repairing and replacement of equipment.

“The metro rail authorities will not seek any money from the government for repairing the Mirpur-10 station. The repair cost was met from the metro rail project,” he added.

The adviser said that JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) constructed the metro rail using Japanese technology and urged the commuters to use the metro rail carefully.

Among others, the senior secretary of the road transport and bridges division Md Ehsanul Haque, executive director of DMTCL Neelima Akhter, DMTCL managing director Abdur Rouf, additional secretary of road transport and bridges division Nafiul Hasan and senior officials were present.
