The Mirpur-10 metro station will resume operation from Tuesday, almost three months after it was shut down following vandalism during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement that eventually turned into the collapse of Awami League-led government.

Mohammad Abdur Rouf, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd, shared this update during a press briefing on Monday.

“With this reopening, all of the stations from Uttara to Matijheel will be functional,” he added.

Unidentified people went on a rampage at Mirpur-10 and Kazipara metro stations on July 19 amid the student movement for quota reform, which later turned into a people's uprising and ousted the Sheikh Hasina-led government.

The authorities managed to reopen Kazipara station on September 20 with special arrangements, two months after the suspension of the operation of the station.

Mohammad Abdur Rouf said that DMTCL had formed a committee on July 20 to file a report measuring damages of the stations which filed its findings on August 14 and was forwarded to Road Transport and Highways Division (RTHD).

The RTHD in September formed an oversight committee that decided to repair the metro stations in phase one and phase two--- dividing the work of opening the station completing primary works in phase one and completing the rest of the works in the second phase.

The Kazipara station’s damaged machines and glasses were replaced by local glasses and equipment supplied by local companies. The Mirpur-10 station was restored using the same method, he said.
