Fourteen more Covid patients died in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day death toll so far at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital till Friday morning, according to the district's health officials.

"Of the deceased, seven were Covid-19 positive while others died with Covid-like-symptoms, said Dr Mohiuddin Khan Moon, focal person of the corona unit of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

Among the fatalities, seven were from Mymensingh, two each from Jamalpur and Sherpur, one each from Jashore, Netrokona and Gazipur.

With 43 new cases, a total of 251 people are currently undergoing Covid treatment against 210 Covid-dedicated beds at the hospital where 13 patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU), Dr Moon added.

Meanwhile, Dr Nazrul Islam, Civil Surgeon of the district, said 147 people were identified as Covid positive as 621 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Currently, the total Covid cases in the district are 8,182 and 7,206 people have recovered so far, he added.

The MMCH on July 1 reported eight deaths of Covid-19, which was the highest single-day death toll at the hospital until Friday.
