RAB mobile court on Tuesday fined five cable company owners a total of Tk 26 lakh and seized electric cable and equipment for selling, producing and stockpiling unauthorised counterfeit electric cable in the Kadamtali and Shampur areas of the capital.
The mobile court, assisted by RAB Executive Magistrate Md Mazharul Islam and RAB-10 conducted the drive in the areas on Tuesday.
The mobile court charged Ivana Cables Industry Tk 20 lakh MRB Cables Tk 2 lakh Jihan Cables Tk 1 lakh Nava Cables Tk 1 lakh and Rahim Metals Tk 2 lakh in the presence of a representative of BSTI.
The mobile court fined 5 cable companies a total of Tk 26 lakh. The seized electric cables and equipment were sold in auction at Tk 1.50 lakh.
Preliminary investigations revealed these unscrupulous traders have been stockpiling and marketing unauthorised and counterfeit electric products for some time now.
