Mobile internet restored today

Internet access in mobile devices through the telecom network is resuming from Sunday afternoon after ten days.

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak made the disclosure at a press conference held in the city’s Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Bhaban on Sunday.

The decision came following a meeting between Palak and representatives from the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB).

Providing more details, the state minister said, “After remaining unavailable since July 17, the mobile 4G network will resume from 3pm today [Sunday]. Moreover, customers who connect to the internet on their mobile phones will get 5GB bonus data for three days.”

Amid the violence surrounding the quota reform movement, mobile internet was shut down on the night of July 17 and broadband internet on the night of July 18.

After five days, last Tuesday night, the broadband internet service was launched experimentally.  Internet services were introduced on priority basis in diplomatic quarters, banks and financial institutions, power, freelancing, and tech and export oriented sectors.

Later, from Wednesday night, internet services became available in residential areas as well. Facebook and TikTok cache servers remain unavailable till the filing of this report.
