Visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the Golden Jubilee of Independence.
The Indian Prime Minister paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his mausoleum there.
After laying the wreath, Narendra Modi stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of Bangladesh’s independence.
A special munajat, seeking eternal peace of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage and martyrs of the Liberation War, was also offered.
Sheikh Hasina along with her sister Sheikh Rehana showed PM Modi various parts of the mausoleum.
Earlier, on his arrival at Tungipara, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received him at the Bangabandhu Memorial Complex with a bouquet. Sheikh Rehana was also present.
The Indian Prime Minister also signed the visitors’ book and planted a sapling there.
Earlier today, PM Modi offered prayers at Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple in Ishwaripur of Satkhira.
He arrived in Dhaka on Friday at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and together celebrated Mujib Borsho- the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and 50 years of Bangladesh’s Independence.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ministers from her cabinet welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. A salute of 19 guns and a guard of honour were accorded to the Indian premier.
This is Modi’s first visit to a foreign country since the coronavirus pandemic broke out last year.
