Momen leaves for Kuwait to convey condolence over Emir's death

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Monday left for Kuwait to convey condolence and sympathy on behalf of the Bangladesh government and its people over the death of Kuwait Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah.

Kuwait Ambassador to Bangladesh Faisal Mutlaq Al Adwani saw the foreign minister off at VIP lounge at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this morning, a foreign ministry press release said.  

Dr Momen who is leading a three-member Bangladesh delegation will attend the state mourning event in Kuwait city this evening.

The foreign minister will return home on Tuesday.  

A one-day state mourning is being observed today in Bangladesh at the death of its real friend Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.

National flags are being kept at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, all government and non-government buildings including educational institutions and Bangladesh missions abroad in observance of the state mourning.

Special prayers are also being offered at all mosques and other religious institutions seeking eternal peace of the departed soul.

The emir of the oil-rich Kuwait died on Saturday at the age of 86 and buried on Sunday following a prayer service in Kuwait.

Following Sheikh Nawaf's death, his half-brother, Crown Prince Sheikh Meshaal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, 83, was named as the new emir.
