Due to the impact of the cyclonic storm 'Amphan', Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today asked maritime ports of Mongla and Payra to hoist danger signal 7.
Additionally, maritime ports of Chattogram and Cox's Bazar were asked to hoist danger signal number 6.
BMD said this in a special notification after analysing the data at 3 pm on Monday (May 18).
The impact of cyclones and the new moon is expected to cause tidal surges in coastal districts, islands and chars.
During the cyclone, areas of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram districts and their remote islands and chars may see heavy rainfall with gusts of wind blowing at 140-160 kilometres hours per hour.
All fishing boats and trawlers over stationed over the north bay and deep-sea stationed in the area have been advised to take shelter until further notice.
