At least 50 people were detained at Keraniganj Kadamtali Babu Bazar bridge and Hasnabad Postogola bridge checkpoints on Saturday.
Members of RAB-10 and police have been conducting extensive search drives at the entry points of the capital again from this morning.
Police set up the checkpoints and had been searching inbound vehicles and ‘suspected passengers’ since Friday morning.
RAB and policemen are checking vehicles and passengers on the approach road to these points.
Shahabuddin Kabir, Additional Superintendent of Police for the Keraniganj Circle, said, “Several individuals were apprehended during the operation on suspicion of unlawful activities. They will undergo thorough scrutiny, and appropriate action will be taken as deemed necessary.”
Local sources reported that 32 individuals were detained at the Keraniganj Model Police Station, while 27 were detained at the Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station.
Commuters from these areas expressed dissatisfaction as law enforcement authorities subjected various vehicles to lengthy searches.
All forms of boat traffic on the Buriganga River have been suspended from Friday night until Saturday. Numerous office-goers, and patients at Mitford Hospital are facing severe difficulties due to the disruption of boat movement.
Meanwhile, Dakkhin Keraniganj Awami League is carrying out their ‘peace rally’ with its affiliated organisations in Hasanabad and Kadmatoli areas.
Thousands of law enforcers – police, RAB and other agencies – have been deployed in Dhaka to prevent possible violence during the rallies of AL and BNP.
