A Dhaka Court has sentenced two people to death for the murder of five-year-old Samiul Azim Wafi in the capital’s Adabar area.
The convicts are - Samiul's mother Ayesha Humayra Esha and her paramour Shamsuzzaman Arif alias Baku.
Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-4 delivered the verdict on Sunday. The court also issued an arrest warrant against them as they are fugitives.
According to the case statement, on June 23 in 2010, Samiul was kidnapped and murdered by the convicts, as he witnessed their illicit affairs.
Later on June 24, 2010, Samiul's father filed the murder case against the duo with Adabor police station.
On June 28, 2010, Shamsuzzaman confessed to killing the child with the help of Ayesha Humayra.
Later, both the convicts were granted bail from the High Court, after which they immediately went into hiding.
Samiul was a student of playgroup of Greenwoods International School in Nabboddya Housing.
