The government has restricted riding motorcycles on the Padma Bridge from 6:00am on Monday till further notice.

The Bridges Division issued a notice in this regard on Sunday night without citing any reasons.

However, the ban comes after two people sustained injuries in an accident between two motorbikes at night on the bridge. They later succumbed to their injuries.

A video spread on social media showed that the injured were lying in a pool of blood while the authorities were preparing to take them to the hospital.

Padma Bridge north police station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain said they were informed about the incident and trying to identify the injured people.

The deceased were later identified as Alamgir, 25, and Fazlu, 24. They were taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctors declared them dead at around 10:30pm. DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Inspector Bacchu Miah confirmed the matter.
