During the holy month of Ramadan, hotels and restaurants as well as makeshift shops in different parts of Dhaka city offer diverse Iftar items.

From the traditional Iftar market at Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka to upscale Iftar gatherings on Bailey Road, and popular Iftar bazar at Mirpur, each has its own significance.

However, the prices of food items at Mirpur's Iftar bazar are relatively lower as compared to those at Chawkbazar or Elephant Road.

Numerous food shops are located at Mirpur-2, 10, 11, 12, Pallabi, and Kalyanpur. Hotels and restaurants here sell a variety of Iftar items.

After noon, roadside shops, hotels and restaurants start selling Iftar items. The common people crowd these hotels and restaurants to buy delicious food items with different tastes.

Prince Sweets and Bakery

Prince Sweets, located next to Prince Bazar at Mirpur-1 circle, has launched an Iftar bazar in Ramadan. Prince Iftar Bazar is considered to be the biggest bazar in Mirpur. Many types of items are available here. On average, 30-35 people can sit here to have iftar.

This year they are selling about 40 iftar items. Mutton roast is sold at Tk 450, chicken tandoori at Tk 120 per piece, chicken barbeque at Tk 120 per piece, haleem at Tk 300-650, chicken Bombay roast at Tk 400, amitti at Tk 220 per kg, burinda at Tk 300 per kg, paneer samucha at Tk 20, Arabian sharma at Tk 120, jhalfry at Tk 120, vegetable egg chop at Tk 25, shahi tukra at Tk 60, egg chop at Tk 30, silky jilapi at Tk 240, and Bombay jilapi at Tk 200. 

Onion, eggplant and potato chops are being sold at Tk 10 per piece, shami kebab at Tk 20, jali kebab at Tk 25, special mini kebab at Tk 40. Chickpeas, piyaju, potato chop, beguni, jilapi, muri, dates, and iftar boxes are available for Tk 50. In addition, iftar orders are taken.

Banalata Restaurant

Banalata Restaurant is the first choice of locals at Mirpur-11. Iftar items here include fried onion, vegetable roll, fried chicken, spring roll, egg chop, potato chop, chicken dramatic, BBQ wings, chicken lollipop, chicken saslik, boneless chicken, chicken popcorn, chicken egg roll, chicken sharma, Bar-B-Q, beef and khasir haleem, beef kathi kebab, and tandoori chicken. Apart from this, Bombay sesame jilapi, Irani jilapi, lacchi, special matha, and yogurt are also sold well.

Grill chicken is sold at Tk 400, single chicken roast at Tk 160, beef kopta at Tk 55, sharma at Tk 100, spring roll and chicken bon at Tk 40. Rasul Islam of Banalata Restaurant said, “We reduced the items on the occasion of the first day. Now I see that many iftars will end before 5 o'clock.”

Mirpur Bihari Camp

If anyone wants to buy Iftar items at affordable prices, he/she can go to Bihari Camp hotels in Mirpur. Mouth-watering Iftar items are served there at lower prices. In the month of Ramadan, the distinct aroma of chop, kebab, and biryani drifts through the air in the afternoon.

There are cow chop, khasi chop, brain fry (cow and khasi), boti kebab (cow and khasi), kebab, gila-kalija, shik kebab, gurda kebab, kathi kebab, shami kebab, reshmi kebab, jali kebab, and gola kebab. Different flavours of food like chicken botti, chicken fry (Desi & Broiler), quail fry, pigeon fry, and tikka are sold.

Biryani, luchi, halim, yoghurt, phirni, jilapi, chhola, borhani, lachi, egg chop, potato chop, payaju, and beguni are sold here. That is why buyers from different parts of Dhaka rushed to Bihari camp. Many people come to the camp and break their fast. Some people also buy these items for their family members and break their fast with their families.

Shakil and Maliha, a couple from Mipur-12 said, “We came to buy sweet curd. But seeing all the delicious food, We bought some meat items. Onion and potato chops are fried at home. We bought grilled chicken and shaslik from here.”

Many people are buying food for Iftar from KFC, Pizza Haat, or local food chains in various areas, including Mirpur-2, 10, and 11. Many also buy foods like kachchi, biryani from Kachchi Bhai, or Ka Te Kachchi.
