The ‘movement pass’ app received as many as 16 crore hits till 9am Thursday following it’s launching by the police to thwart spread of COVID-19.
In every minute, the movement pass app, introduced by police to facilitate people with uninterrupted movement during the lockdown on valid grounds, got 57,942 hits from people who sought ‘hassle free’ movement.
Among them, a total of 4,00,977 people were able to apply for the movement pass but the police issued 3,16,801 passes, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police news portal.
The police on Monday said that people, who need to venture out for essential services during COVID-19 lockdown, would require a ‘movement pass’.
The pass-holders will be able to go out without any interruption.
Earlier, the police demanded movement pass from everyone but the police headquarters has given respite to the people in emergency occupations from having the mandatory pass. They will only be able to move by showing their official ID card only.
People of 18 professions, who do not need movement pass, include doctor, nurse, medical staff, individuals or staff involved in COVID-19 vaccination and treatment, banking staff, journalist, media cameraman, telephone and internet service worker, private security guards, staffers involved in emergency services, government officials, workers and officers involved in the manufacture of factories and garments, member of the law enforcement force, fire service, postal service, individuals or officials involved in electricity, water, gas and fuel and ports.
However, the common people, who need emergency services, must apply for the pass through the site movementpass.police.gov.bd, said officials.
Conditional permission will be granted for a specified period and people will have to take a pass for every journey.
Everyone needs to fill in the information like name, mobile number, place of departure, destination, ID card or driving license, reason for the journey etc to apply for a movement pass. Police will later issue a pass online.
The pass issued online will contain all the travel information and a QR code so that the law enforcers at various checkpoints can easily scan the pass to validate and allow the pass-holder to move.
