A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted bail to Mosaddek Hanif Soad, the main accused of the case filed over the tragic capsize of 'ML Morning Bird' launch in the Buriganga river that claimed 34 lives on June 29.
Dhaka District and Sessions Judge Shawkot Hossain Chowdhury passed the order.
Public Prosecutor Khandakar Abdul Mannan Khan confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
Soad’s lawyer told the court that the MV Moyur-2 launch owner was not on the launch when the accident took place. The prosecution, however, opposed the defence plea and claimed that as an owner of the vessel, he could not avoid the responsibility of the accident and his bail plea should be rejected.
Later, the judge granted bail to the launch owner upon a bond of Tk 20,000 with two guarantors, after hearing both sides.
Mosaddek Hanif Soad was arrested from Dhaka on July 9 and placed on a three-day remand by a virtual court on the same day.
