The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) asked Hotel 71 and Mugda Medical College and General Hospital for residence and food billing information of doctors and nurses who resided at the hotel while treating coronavirus patients.

The ACC on Sunday (July 12) sent letters to the authorities of the hotel and the hospital after receiving allegations of irregularities.

ACC Public Relations Officer (PRO) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

The letters, signed by ACC Deputy Director Md Shahjahan Miraz, asked for detailed information on an urgent basis on how much money was spent on accomodation and food for doctors and nurses and a list of the services they were provided with at the hotel.

The doctors and nurses of the 500-bed Mugda Medical College and General Hospital were residing at Hotel 71 in Dhaka’s Bijoy Nagar since April 20. Later the government shifted them to Oriental Hotel in Gulshan on May 20 after they expressed dissatisfaction over the services at Hotel 71.

However, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on May 23 transferred Mugda Medical College’s principal and acting director following allegations of irregularities.
