Three people including the wife and son of the newly elected mayor of Faridpur’s Nagarkanda Municipality were killed as a microbus collided with a passenger transport vehicle on Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as—Mayor Nimaichnadra Sarker’s wife Sanchita Sarker, 38, their son, Gourav Sarker, 23 and general secretary of the municipality unit Jubo League, Kamal Matbor, 38.
Ten others including the mayor were injured in the accident.
Bhanga Highway police outpost Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Faruq confirmed the matter.
Nimaichandra has been taken to Dhaka from Faridpur Medical College Hospital with critical injuries.
The accident occurred around 9:30pm in Kaichail union of Nagarkanda when the mayor and his family members were returning home by a microbus after attending a programme in Bhanga upazila, said the OC.
