Former state minister information and broadcasting Md Murad Hassan arrived in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon after being denied entry to both Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

An Emirates flight (EK586) carrying Murad from Dubai landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 5:00pm, an official of HISA's health department confirmed The Business Post.

He came out of the airport around 6:15pm after completing all the formalities.

Earlier on Friday, Murad left Bangladesh at 1:16am on an Emirates flight for Toronto via Dubai.

The Canada Border Services Agency denied his entry into the country, reports Toronto-based Bangla news portal Notun Desh.

He was sent back to Dubai on an Emirates flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport on Friday, according to the portal.

On December 7, Murad submitted his resignation to the secretariat following a directive from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

President Md Abdul Hamid accepted the resignation letter on the same day.

On December 6, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader told the media that the prime minister asked the state minister to resign from his post within a day.

The prime minister’s instruction came after Murad’s indecent remarks during a telephonic conversation with a female actor went viral on social media.

His obscene remarks drew flak from the country’s women rights groups, rights activists and academicians apart from the BNP supporters and several former ruling Awami League female leaders.

Murad earlier stirred up controversy by making offensive remarks against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her family members.

He recently drew criticism by saying that the state religion provision should not remain in the constitution, even though the party’s senior leadership is not considering the matter.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud said that both the government and the Awami League felt embarrassed with the indecent remarks of the state minister.

Meanwhile, several complaints have been lodged to sue the lawmaker from Jamalpur-4 constituency under the Digital Security Act.

Murad was also stripped of the post of health and population affairs secretary of Jamalpur district unit Awami League for damaging the party’s image and his involvement in anti-disciplinary activities.
