Posts, Telecommunications and Information Communication Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam and Labour and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan have expressed concerns over the recent attack on Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) President Al Sadi Bhuiyan and Jago Staff correspondent News Nahid Sabbir.

Nahid and Asif came to visit the two injured journalists at the Dhaka University Medical Centre (DUMC) on Friday night, and assured the victims of bringing the attackers to book.

The culprits who carried out the attack on journalists will be quickly identified and arrested, said the advisers.

Adviser Nahid said, “Students and the people carried out a mass uprising against discrimination. After the mass uprising, this attack on journalists is shameful to us, as the Dhaka University Journalists' Association has played an important role in the mass uprising.”

“The journalists of Dhaka University have been publishing news defying all odds. Without their positive support, it would have been difficult to succeed in the student-people mass uprising. The culprits involved in the incident will be arrested and brought to justice soon.”

Journalists Al Sadi Bhuiyan and Nahid Sabbir were attacked while collecting news in the city’s Bonggo Islamia Super Market. Former Councilor Chameli's followers told them to the shop, and then attacked them with hammers, rods and GI pipes.

Journalists Sadi and Sabbir said, “We went to the market to collect news, but suddenly some followers of Chameli attacked us. Though we introduced ourselves as journalists, the attack on us did not stop.”

A case was filled in this incident at the Shahbagh police station where Rafiqul Islam Shopon, Member Secretary of ward 20 BNP of Shahbagh Thana, former Councilor Chameli’s (councilor of ward 19 and 20 of Shahbagh thana) husband Abul Hossen Tabu, Masud Yousuf,  convener of  ward 20 BNP of Shahbagh thana, have been accused.

Investigation Officer of the case Sub-Inspector Saimul Islam said, “We raided a few potential locations yesterday and today. However, no one has been arrested so far.”
