Nasim undergoes successful surgery after suffering stroke

Ailing former Health and Family Welfare Minister and Awami League leader Mohammad Nasim underwent a successful surgery on Friday after suffering a brain stroke, confirmed Awami League office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua.

In a facebook post, Biplab Barua said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina talked to Tanvir Shakil Joy, son Mohammad Nasim, over phone. His family members sought blessings from the people of the country for his recover.”

Earlier, Mohammad Nasim’s health condition deteriorated after he suffered a stroke Friday morning while undergoing treatment for coronavirus at a Dhaka hospital.

Director and CEO of Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in Shyamoli, Imran Chowdhury, said, “The Awami League leader suffered a stroke around 5 am on Friday. He is undergoing a surgery under Dr Rabiul Haque, chief of Neurosurgery Department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.”.

Earlier on June 1, Mohammad Nasim tested positive for coronavirus after being admitted to the private hospital in the capital's Shyamoli area, with blood pressure problems and physical weakness. He has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since then.

On June 2, Mohammad Nasim tested positive for coronavirus shortly after he was admitted to a private hospital in the capital, said Nasim’s son Tanvir Shakil.

On Thursday, the condition of the politician improved and he was scheduled to be shifted to a cabin from ICU, he added.

A stalwart of the ruling party, in Nasim's present role he has been acting as the convenor for the 14-party ruling alliance built around the heft of AL. After the 2014 parliamentary election, Mohammad Nasim became the health minister of the Awami League government. Earlier, he served in several ministries during the 1996-2001 Awami League government.
