Election using ballots in 300 seats: EC

Voting will be done by ballot in all 300 constituencies in the upcoming 12th national election, said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Jahangir Alam on Monday.

The EC secretary disclosed the information to the journalists after the 17th meeting of the commission at the conference hall of Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal presided over the meeting.

EVM voting in 5 cities

The EC secretary also said that 100 per cent of the votes in the country's five city corporation elections will be through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

According to the schedule, Gazipur City will vote on May 25, Khulna-Barisal on June 12, and Rajshahi-Sylhet on June 21.

The last date for filing nomination papers for the Gazipur City Corporation election is April 27. Nomination papers will be collected on April 30. The appeal will be filed from May 2 to May 4 and decided on May 5-7. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 8. Allotment of symbols will be on May 8 and the election will be held on May 25.
