Navy chief leaves for US to attend International Seapower Symposium

The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal left Dhaka on Tuesday to attend the 24th International Seapower Symposium in the United States.

Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal was invited by US Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Michael M Gilday to attend the symposium.

The Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) and the Naval Administrative Authority Dhaka officially bid the navy chief farewell at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

During his visit to the United States, Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal will take part in discussions in the symposium on growing dependence on marine resources, maritime security and maritime stability, and the impact of climate change on international security.

Also, he will have courtesy meetings with Admiral Michael M Gilday, Chief of the United States Navy; Admiral Tony Radakin, First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff of UK; Admiral Samuel J Paparo, Commander of US Pacific Fleet; Admiral Yodo Margono, Chief of Naval Staff of Indonesia and Admiral Boo Suk-jong, Chief of Naval Operations of the Republic of Korea Navy.

He will also exchange views with representatives of other countries attending the symposium.

Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal’s participation in the symposium is expected to further strengthen the relationship of the Bangladesh Navy with the United States, including the development of mutual relations with navies from other countries.

The Chief of Naval Staff will return on September 19 following his visit.
