NBR extends deadline for tax submission

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the time for filing income tax return without penalty. The NBR on Monday (June 1) issued an order in this regard under the powers given under Section 184G of the Income-tax Ordinance, 1984.

As a result, taxpayers who have not been able to file their income tax returns between March 26 and May 30 this year will be able to file their income tax returns by June 29 without penalty.

The order, signed by Alamgir Hossain, NBR member (policy) said the deadline for carrying out all timely activities under the Income Tax Ordinance, 1984, Income Tax Rules, 1984 and office system for all classes of taxpayers and withholding tax authorities has passed between 26 March 2020 and 30 May 2020. In all these cases, the period from March 26 to May 30 has been extended to June 29, 2020.

The NBR order also stated that no interest or penalty would be applicable for the revised period.
