As many as 39,365 landless and homeless families across the country will get new houses as gifts from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina under the fourth phase of the Asrayan-2 project.

The prime minister will launch distribution of the houses with land ownership documents and keys to the beneficiary families in three upazilas through videoconferencing from Ganabhaban on Wednesday, according to sources from Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The beneficiaries of the Uttarpar Ashrayan project in Barisal’s Banaripara, the Nayapara Ashrayan project in Gazipur’s Sreepur, and the Nawagon Ashrayan project in Sylhet’s Gowainghat will directly engage the prime minister in a discussion.

A total of 373,562 homes have been given to landless and homeless families as part of Sheikh Hasina's Ashrayan programme since it was launched in 1997.

In the first phase, 60,191 houses were handed over on January 23, 2021 and 53,300 houses on June 20.

Since 1997, 554,597 families have been rehabilitated so far under the project.
