She is very much popular among the general people because of her magical face and attractive demeanour. As she goes out for investigation, people throng to have a glimpse of her on the one hand while on the other, she is terrifying for the terrorists. She is also an expert in unveiling clueless cases.
She has been serving the state round the clock. Even she has the instance of reaching the spot located in the remotest area where commuters cannot reach.
She learnt about honesty from her father Md. Abdul Malek Talukdar, a retired schoolteacher.
She is Mahmuda Sharmin Neli, a successful and brave officer of the Bangladesh Police. Today she is a trendsetter and a successful woman after crossing numerous hurdles.
Neli tied the knot while studying in honours first year. After her marriage she had to manage her husband, in-laws and study. When Neli was a student of honours second year, her mother Nazmunnahar passed away. Neli’s tension escalated as she is the eldest among her siblings. She veered sharply off the easy way of life and caught off guard as she had to manage her study and in laws plus there was a vacuum due to the demise of her mother.
However, Neli a student of the department of Biology of Chattogram University stood first in both honours and masters braving so many hurdles.
Neli’s life was enlightened with the birth of her only daughter Zareen Subah Nuha after the completion of her study. She started to prepare for the BCS when the age of her daughter was six months. Neli did not dream of any specific profession. While making preparations for the BCS, she was inspired by her husband Engineer Mozammel Haq.
When Neli began to study, things appeared to be very tough for her. Being a student of science, it took time for her to get familiar with subjects like Bangla, international and Bangladesh affairs. She had no interest in reading newspapers. At one stage, she decided not to seat for the BCS exam.
However, she changed her mind and started to prepare for the BCS examinations in a systematic manner so that she does not have repent in the future. Neli was assisted by her husband Mozammel.
According to Neli it is really tough for a woman to become successful in getting a job after getting married and completing her studies unless co-operated by her husband and in-laws. Neli had to pass hard times as she had to manage her daughter on one hand and preparation for job on the other hand. She counted every minute and tried to save five to ten minutes heart and soul.
However, Neli’s efforts did not go in vain. She secured the seventh position in the merit list of the Police cadre of 34th BCS. She gets still emotional on remembering the night she had her result. Neli could not believe her results and passed a sleepless night.
However, this police official regrets had her mother been alive would have witnessed her success.
Neli joined the basic course at the Sarda Police Academy when the age of her only daughter was three and a half years. The physical stress she went through in the training was not more than the mental stress due to staying away from her daughter. But Neli’s daughter was her biggest inspiration at that time. Although she fell sick during the training but did not take leave for a single day for the sake of her daughter.
Neli said that taking a leave for a day from the training due to sickness means staying away from her daughter for another day. For this reason, she completed her training within 365 days despite having many woes.
She received basic training for six months in Netrokona district after completing graduation from Sarda. Her maiden posting was at the office of the Range DIG, Mymensingh. She served there for almost two years as Staff Office to DIG.
At present she is serving in the Durgapur Circle of Netrakona District as Senior Assistant Police Super. Neli joined as the first women circle ASP of Netrokona District. She faces more challenges as the two Thanas namely Durgapur and Kolmakanda are near the Indian border.
This meritorious officer is proving her capabilities in every moment. Neli has to work a lot for preventing smuggling and drug abuse in the border area. As a woman she tries to focus specially on the problems faced by the women in the society. From the beginning of lock down due to corona virus, she has been carrying out her responsibilities as a front liner.
Being a police officer at the field level, Neli does not have fixed working hours. But she tries to carry out her responsibilities equally both in her workplace and at home. Neli forgets all her hardships after having a look at the smiling faces of her husband and daughter.
Neli received many prizes in recognition to her success at her workplaces. While discharging her duties Neli never considers herself as a woman but as a responsible officer.
This police officer, who is successful in her studies, workplace and family, greets all the women on the occasion of Women’s Day which falls on March 8 and urges all women to build themselves to attain success. For this reason, they need self-confidence and have to carry on that confidence. There will be hurdles but they have to face with success. Neli wants that a woman should establish in the society with her own identity and self-esteem. Neli thinks that individual freedom can take a woman to success.
