Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering have paid rich tributes to the memory of Father of the Nation of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the city.
Dr Lotay Tshering paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a floral wreath at his portrait on Bangabandhu Memorial Museum premises at Dhanmondi road number 32 around 12.20 pm.
Upon his arrival there, the Bhutanese Prime Minister was received by Sheikh Rehana, the younger daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam was also present there.
He signed the visitors’ book there afterwards.
“On behalf of the people and the Royal Government of Bhutan, I offer my humble respect and prayers to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for giving above the manacles of foreign exploitation and blessing the nation onto a path of unprecedented peace, prosperity and stability,” the Bhutanese premier wrote in the visitors’ book.
His daughter Sheikh Hasina is now fulfilling Bangabandhu’s vision of ‘Sonar Bangla’, and with each passing year Bangladesh is becoming more prosperous and its people are being more happy, he also wrote.
“. . . thank you (Bangabandhu) for being a true leader. Amar Desh, Tomar Desh . . . B/desh, B/desh (my country, your country . . . Bangladesh, Bangladesh),” Tshering wrote.
Earlier in the day, Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering paid rich tributes to the memory of martyred freedom fighters by placing a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.
He reached the National Memorial at about 10:30am.
On his arrival there, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 9 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army Major General Shaheenul Haque, Superintendent of Police, Dhaka Md Maruf Hossain Sarder and civil and military high officials welcomed Tshering.
A smartly turned-out contingent drawn from Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force gave him a guard of honour while the bugles played the last post.
Tshering also signed the visitors’ book at the memorial.
“It is an honour for me to pay tribute to the brave sons of Bangladesh who sacrificed their lives for the country during the Liberation War. May their sacrifices remain etched in the annals of Bangladesh’s history,” the Bhutanese premier wrote in the visitors’ book.
He also planted a fruit sapling of ‘Latkan’ (Baccaurea sapida) on the memorial premises.
Prior to this, the Bhutanese Prime Minister arrived here this morning on a three-day official visit to join the celebrations of the golden jubilee of the country’s independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received her Bhutanese counterpart at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) by presenting a flower bouquet, while a 21 gun salute heralded the state guest’s arrival.

She paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait on the premises of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi road number 32 at 11:30 am.
She also visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and signed visitors’ book.
