Newly appointed State Minister for Finance Waseqa Ayesha Khan has said that her priority will be to eradicate corruption from all financial institutions.

"As far as my personal priority is concerned, I will work to combat corruption in the financial sector," she said in her first reaction to reporters after taking charge as the state minister.

She, however, said she will sit with the Finance Minister and try to learn about the key challenges of the ministry and set the priority on that basis.

"We will set priorities of the Finance Ministry and then will move to work on that," she added.

She expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving her the responsibility and sought cooperation from all to do her job properly.

Waseqa Ayesha Khan is the Vice President of Mohila Awami League, the women's wing of Awami League.

Earlier, Khan served as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in June 2021.

On March 1, 2024 she was appointed as state minister for finance.
