Students of Dhaka College clashed with New Market traders again Tuesday morning at the busy Nilkhet intersection, triggering a massive traffic jam in the area.
The fresh clash erupted as the students went to the intersection around 10:00am to form a human chain in protest against last night’s alleged attack on them by members of the New market Traders’ Association.
Some traders of New Market "teased and provoked" the protesters, triggering this morning's clash, according to witnesses, reports UNB.
Sharif, Assistant Commissioner (New Market zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said," I am currently undergoing treatment at a hospital after suffering injuries while controlling the situation last night."
"The students were to protest against the attack this morning too and some of them had said they would not let the traders open their shops until the perpetrators of last night's alleged attack was brought to justice," he added.
According to the students, two of their peers are being treated at Square Hospital as they "sustained injuries in their eyes when police fired rubber bullets last night".

Meanwhile, Dhaka College authorities cancelled all the classes and exams scheduled to be held on Tuesday after a clash broke out between students and New Market traders earlier on the day.
However, the acting principal of the college had requested all the teachers to be present on the campus at 10:00am. A notice was published in this regard on the college's official website and its verified Facebook page.
Earlier some Dhaka College students went to New Market for shopping around 12:00am, where they had a quarrel with some shopkeepers. At one point two of the students got stabbed. When this news spread on the campus, the students of Dhaka College went there to thrash the attackers.
