A Dhaka court on Sunday fixed April 13 for recording next testimony over the murder of Sagira Morshed on July 25, 1989.
Judge Md Rabiul Alam of the third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judges Court of Dhaka fixed the date today as the accused were not produced before the court due to a nationwide strike enforced by Hefazat-e-Islam, Additional Public Prosecutor Tapas Kumar Pal confirmed the matter to media this regard.
Earlier on December 2 last year, a Dhaka court framed charges against four accused in this case.
The four accused are Sagira’s brother-in-law Dr Hasan Ali Chowdhury, his wife Sayedatul Mahmud alias Shahin, Shahin’s brother Anas Mahmud alias Rejwan and a hired killer Maruf Reza.
On January 16 last year, PBI Inspector M Rafiqul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted charge-sheet in the murder case.
On July 25, 1989, the victim Sagira, 34, was going to Viqarunnisa Noon School on the capital’s Bailey Road by a rickshaw to pick up her daughter Saharat. Sagira could not pick up her daughter as muggers shot her to death in front of the school.
Abdus Salam Chowdhury, husband of the victim, filed a murder case against some unknown people with Ramna Police Station the same day. But the trial proceedings of the case had been stayed for the last 28 years following a High Court order.
