NILM & RC admits error in reporting Shajahan Khan’s daughter’s Covid-19 test
NILM & RC Director Prof Dr Abul Khair Mohammad Shamsuzzman briefs the media on Monday

National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Center (NILM & RC) authorities have admitted that it incorrectly prepared the Covid-19 test report for former shipping minister and Awami League presidium member Shajahan Khan’s daughter Oaishe Khan hours after she filed a complaint over her 'faulty' report.

NILM & RC Director Prof Dr Abul Khair Mohammad Shamsuzzman, in a press briefing on Monday (July 27), blamed a mistake of the data entry operator which caused error in the report.

An untoward environment prevailed on the institute’s campus due to a work abstention programme staged by the medical technologists on July 25 which led to a hurry in delivering the Covid-19 test reports within the set timeframe after carrying out test, he told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Oaishe Khan filed a complaint with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) over 'inaccurate results' of her Covid-19 test.

In the complaint, she claimed she provided samples for Covid-19 testing at the corona isolation centre of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in Mohakhali on July 24 and the reports, both the online and printed versions, came out 'negative' the next day.

On July 26, when she arrived at Shahjalal International Airport to fly for London, the authorities of the airport barred her from leaving, saying she was found to be Covid-19 positive on the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) website.

Oaishe said the erroneous report has not only put her family members at risk of contracting Covid-19 from her but also caused humiliation for her father. In the complaint she also urged the DGHS to take legal action against those responsible for providing her with the incorrect test report of Covid-19.
