'No alternative to research for capacity building'

State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said there is no alternative to research in order to increase one's own capacity.

"If you want to build your own country, you have to make the best use of the country's mineral resources. Through extensive research, it will be easier to find and extract our mineral resources," he was addressing a signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh Petroleum Institute and the Department of Geology of Dhaka University at the Secretariat here.

The state minister said that universities have been leading the world in the field of technological development and advancement. "We believe that one day; Dhaka University will lead the country with technological advancement and knowledge."

"There is no alternative to build a knowledge-based society as well as the Sonar Bangla dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," he added.

"Uninterrupted energy supply is a big challenge for us for transforming the nation into a developed one," Nasrul Hamid said.

AK Mizanur Rahman, joint secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, moderated the ceremony while Professor Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed, treasurer of Dhaka University, and Professor Subrata Kumar Saha, chairman of the Geology Department spoke at the event.

Later, Dhaka University Treasurer Professor Momtaz Uddin and Bangladesh Petroleum Institute Director General Khenchan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.

Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Division Nurul Alam chaired the function.
