Md Rayhan Kabir, the Bangladeshi man who was arrested in Malaysia for participating in an Al Jazeera documentary “Locked Up in Malaysia's Lockdown” will be deported without being charged.
His lawyer K Sumitha Shaanthinni and C Selvaraja in a statement said Md Rayhan will be deported immediately after his Covid-19 screening test results.
Sumitha said the deportation process would include getting a flight ticket to Bangladesh as soon as his Covid-19 test is done.
"The Immigration Department decided to deport Md Rayhan Kabir. There will be no charges against him," the statement said.
Md Rayhan was detained by Malaysian Immigration Department following his interview on the July 3 documentary programme, which criticised Malaysia's handling of illegal immigrants during its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
He was found hiding in a condominium at Jalan Pahang on July 24.
