Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said that no compromise will be made over security arrangements on the occasion of Golden Jubilee of Independence, Victory Day 2021 and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman celebrations.

“Security is the utmost importance for us as we will be engaged to ensure security of VVIPs who will participate in the function to mark the golden jubilee of Independence, Victory Day and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

Shafiqul said that president, prime minister, Indian president and other dignitaries will participate in the Golden Jubilee of Independence, Victory Day 2021 and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman celebrations.

“Such an important duty of the state does not always come. If you have to do something more than 100 per cent, you have to do it. It is a matter of pride, dignity and honour for the police to maintain security of the state. We have to keep in mind that we can fulfill our responsibilities properly,” he added.

Emphasizing on security, the DMP commissioner said that in case of any suspicion, every person and vehicle would be properly searched, adding, “None will be spared on the question of security.”

Earlier, the DMP commissioner said that four-tier security measure including the President's Guard Regiment (PGR), Detective brunch of police, Special Security Force (SSF) and Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has been taken for the occasion while each venue of the celebrations will be swept by the SB, SSF, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and DMP dog squads.

He said security personnel will set up check posts in city's different points including the diplomatic zones for the Victory Day celebration.

“Law enforcers will also be on alert in key areas of the capital. Security checkpoints will be set up while security personnel will patrol to ensure security at victory day arrangements such as meetings and cultural programmes,” Shafiqul said.

He said that security will be tightened on the premises of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) and the national parade ground as many foreign dignitaries will join those venues on the occasion of the victory day.

The DMP chief added members of the law enforcement agencies will be deployed both in uniform and with plain cloth in every multi-storey building in the vicinity of the parliament building, adding that the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)'s special unit and bomb disposal unit will remain vigilant round the clock to thwart any unwanted situation.
