Bangladesh Railway Director General (DG) Sardar Shahadat said no decision has been made as yet on resuming train service across the country, which had remained halted since July 18 due violence and vandalism that took place amid the quota reform movement.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Shahadat added that if any decision in this regard is made, it will be announced, and safety is of utmost priority.

He added, “The decision to restart train services will be taken after a thorough analysis of the situation and discussions with the minister, secretary, and other stakeholders.

Despite the suspension of passenger and cargo train services, trains carrying fuel oil continue to operate under security provided by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). These trains are transporting fuel oil from Chattogram, Khulna, and Ishwardi to different districts.

It should be noted that on July 24, the railways ran a limited number of cargo trains, but those got suspended on July 25.

Train services were halted on July 18 when quota reform protesters set fire to a railway track near the Nakhalpara rail gate area in the capital, prompting Bangladesh Railways to take this measure for public safety.
