No decision yet to jab under-18s
A health worker is preparing a Covid-19 vaccine shot at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on June 21, 2021.

The government has not made any decision yet to inoculate the under-18 population against Covid-19, Directorate General of Health Services said.

Dr Md Shamsul Haque, line director of DGHS's Maternal Neonatal Child and Adolescent Health, disclosed the matter at the regular health bulletin of the directorate.

"There is currently no plan to vaccinate people over 12 years of age," he said at the virtual bulletin on Sunday afternoon.

While highlighting various information about the coronavirus situation and the state of vaccination in Bangladesh, Shamsul Haque said, "A discussion over some plan of inoculating people over 12 years of age with Pfizer and Modern vaccines has been going around for the past several days."

"However, the minimum age limit for Covid vaccination is above 18 until now. There are currently no plans to vaccinate people under this age limit," he said.

It is for the national committee on coronavirus to decide whether or not people over the age of 12 will be vaccinated. We will inform everyone if any such decision is made in the future, Shamsul Haque added.
