No iftar, sehri at mosques during Ramadan

The government has urged Muslim devotees to abstain from the practice of iftar and sehri at mosques in the month of Ramadan, like the previous year, as part of the measures taken to curb spread of COVID-19.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs issued a set of instructions regarding this Monday.

The devotees performing prayer in mosques must maintain social distancing and abide by the health guidelines to stay safe from the virus, it said.

Authorities of mosques including Islamic Foundation have been asked to ensure sanitizing and handwashing facilities at the entrances of mosques across the country.

The holy month of Ramadan is expected to begin on April 12 in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is observing a week-long lockdown beginning from Monday to tackle the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic as the country registered 9,318 deaths from the deadly virus with 6,44,439 total infections till date.
