Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Friday said the government is determined to ensure food security and to that end, no land would be left uncultivated.

The minister came up with the remarks while distributing vegetable seeds and reaper machines among farmers in Rangunia of Chattogram in the morning.

"Economic activities of the world have been halted due to coronavirus outbreak which could lead to food scarcity, but Bangladesh has fertile land. To increase production, not a single piece of the plot should be left untilled,” the minister said.

Production should be increased so that the country can ensure food safety and also help others if necessary, he said.

The government has been distributing fertilisers, seeds and pesticides among farmers as subsidy in this regard, Mahmud said.

“We must encourage each other so that no one keeps their land unproductive," he insisted.

According to the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, health safety equipment were allocated to the upazila parishads from the local government division to ensure the safety of the marginal population, the minister said.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Masudur Rahman, Upazila Vice Chairman Md Shafikul Islam, and Awami League Vice-President of Rangunia unit were also present there.
