Mobile internet can no longer be used in different regions across the country, including in several areas of Dhaka.

This issue came to light last Tuesday night amid the ongoing quota reform movement. The internet cannot be used with mobile data in several areas of the capital city till the filing of this report on Thursday.

However, broadband internet service, and also the 2G service for mobile internet are available.

Sources and consumers say that in Dhaka, mobile internet is not available in areas such as Dhanmondi, Neelkhet, Palashi, Science Lab, Green Road, Jatrabari and several areas of neighbouring Narayanganj, Tongi and Gazipur city.

The same situation has been reported in areas near universities in different parts of the country.

A number of mobile data users say the issue began around Tuesday midnight. Although mobile data was working a little until Wednesday afternoon, accessing the internet with phones has become impossible since then.

The mobile internet is not working despite having enough data. SIM users of Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi, Airtel and Teletalk are all facing the same situation.

However, there are no issues with accessing the internet through broadband using cable connection at home and work.

It should be noted that the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) or mobile operator companies have yet to issue any statements in this regard.

Many consumers have reported significant slowdowns in mobile data usage ever since nationwide student protests and clashes demanding abolition of quota in government jobs went into full swing.
