The government has lifted the no-objection requirement for Bangladeshi citizens to return to the country via land ports after a trip to India.

The decision would be effective from Thursday (Sep 16), said a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The condition of informing the concerned authorities before leaving the country has also been relaxed.

The government postponed the entry through land ports from April 26 due to the worst situation of Covid-19 delta variant in India. Among these, three land ports have been recognised for the return of Bangladeshis from India, on a condition that they bring a no-objection letter from the Bangladesh Mission.

An inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen on Tuesday recommended the relaxation of various conditions for travelling via land ports.

The Ministry said that regular immigration will be introduced through Benapole, Akhaura, Sonamasjid, Hili, Darshana and Burimari land ports.

The passenger crossing through the closed land ports and customs stations - Sheola, Tamabil, Bhomra, Biral and Banglabandha, will restart from September 19, the ministry further said.
