Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General M Khurshid Hossain on Friday said there is no security threat centring the Eid-ul-Fitr.

"We have taken all preparations to ensure the safety of the Eid congregations. We have already deployed the striking forces and commando team to deal any kind of sabotage and attack with iron hands," he told journalists after visiting the security system at the National Eidgah in Dhaka.

Khurshid said no information on terror attacks ahead of Eid was found after analysing the intelligence and cyber monitoring information.

"But do not feel complacent," the RAB chief said.

"At this moment people are visiting shopping malls and markets, and security arrangements have been made there. Patrolling and intelligence surveillance have been strengthened at shopping malls, markets and crowded areas."

Khurshid said the security system has been strengthened in various important Eidgahs (National Eidgah, Sholakia Eidgah and Dinajpur Gore Shahid Eidgah Maidan) including the capital city.

"The National Eidgah has been swept by the dog squad and bomb disposal unit. There will be CCTV coverage. Adequate uniforms and plainclothes security personnel will patrol the Eidgah, while intelligence surveillance has been strengthened at all important Eidgahs."

He said the RAB's cyber monitoring team is working to stop the spreading of rumours, incitement and false information in the virtual world centring the Eid.

"To ensure overall security during the Eid, RAB has increased intelligence surveillance across the country,” the RAB DG said.

The battalion will have a control room, striking reserve, foot and mobile patrol, vehicle scanner, observation post, check post and CCTV monitoring on the occasion of the nationwide Eid celebration, he said.

Replying to a question, Khurshid said the RAB's bomb disposal unit, dog squad and air wing (helicopter) are always ready to deal with any situation.

The RAB chief said they will monitor and coordinate the security measures through its hotline number (01777720029).

Four-tier security at National Eidgah

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq on Friday said four-tier foolproof security measures will be ensured for the country's main Eid Jamaat (congregation) at the National Eidgah on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

He also said the devotees will not be allowed to carry anything except prayer mats.

The DMP commissioner told reporters after visiting the security measures at the National Eidgah at 10am.

About security measures, the commissioner said the bomb-disposal unit of the DMP, CTTC's dog conducted sweeping on the National Eidgah premises.

He said plainclothes police members will also remain deployed while the entire area will be kept under CCTV surveillance.

Real-time monitoring will be carried out through CCTV cameras from a temporary control room set up at the Eidgah, he said.
