No vaccine for people under 18

People under the age of 18, who consists of about 40 percent of the population, will not be under the Covid-19 vaccination program of the government.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque disclosed this to the media after visiting the vaccine lab at the National Control Laboratory of the Department of Drug Administration on Sunday.

He said, “People under the age of 18 are not being vaccinated anywhere in the world and no trial is being carried out on them.”

“Besides, 20 percent of the population would get the Covid-19 vaccine, which is about five and a half crore of the total population," the minister added.

He also said that pregnant women and people suffering from complex diseases would not be vaccinated too.

Zahid Maleque said that as a huge part of the population won’t need vaccination, the gap between supply and demand won’t be much.

According to the minister, "One crore people live outside the country. As we have it, about five and a half crore people will not need the vaccine at the moment. And the vaccine that will be given is also about five and a half crore. So the gap (the rest of the population) is not large, we will fill in the gaps in stages."

He also said that health workers, policeman, journalists and people above the age of 60 would be the first to receive the vaccine.
