Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said that nobody from her party or family members applied for coronavirus-infected BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to send her abroad for better treatment.
After a programme of distributing Eid gifts on behalf of prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Naznin School in capital’s East Raza Bazar, the home minister made the remarks while replying to a query of journalists whether Khaleda Zia would be allowed to take treatment abroad
Asaduzzaman Khan said, “Prime minister Sheikh Hasina gave her (Khaleda Zia) the opportunity to take treatment from home after postponing punishment against the appeal of the members of her family. As far my knowledge is concerned, she is taking treatment in a private hospital in the capital. So far as I know, specialist doctors are providing her treatment.
“No one from her party or family members applied for coronavirus-infected BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to send her abroad for better treatment. Prime minister made the arrangement to her (Khaleda Zia) so that she can avail better treatment in the country,” he said.
“Taking her abroad for better treatment depends on the court. If she wants to get more beyond what the prime minister allowed for her should come through court,” the minister said in reply to a query about whether government will allow Khaleda Zia to go abroad.
On Tuesday after a lengthy meeting, a medical board recommended Khaleda Zia should be taken abroad for better treatment.
Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment in Coronary Care Unit of Evercare Hospital with some old age complications.
