Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Thursday said Bangladesh now cannot be called a democratic country due to "dictatorship and lack of good governance".
The way things are moving right now it is not possible to practise democracy in the country, he said while addressing a programme at Jatiya Party chairman's Banani office. Around 50 leaders and activists of different parties joined Jatiya Party at the programme.
The Jatiya Party chief said 'pure democracy' is now required to overcome the anarchic situation that has been created all over the country, including at Bashurhat in Noakhali.
GM Quader said misrule and widespread corruption are there in the country due to the imbalance of power.
Stating that the Liberation War took place in 1971 in protest against the discrimination by the West Pakistanis, he said now it is not possible to get jobs or do business by those people who do not belong to the ruling party.
"The ruling party has snatched the peace of people by indulging in tender manipulation, nepotism and extortion," GM Quader alleged.
Addressing the programme, party secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu said the Awami League government has snatched people's voting rights and freedom of expression.
He said the incidents of rape are happening daily, but the victims are not getting justice for lack the rule of law.
Bablu urged people to raise their voice for establishing justice and fairness by joining Jatiya Party's 'anti-autocracy' movement.
