The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has recommended stopping all sorts of social, religious and political gatherings to check the spread of Covid-19.

The NTAC made the recommendation following its 50th meeting held on Friday.

The committee suggested that use of face masks properly, hand wash and social distance must be ensured everywhere, said a press release signed by NTAC President Professor Mohammad Shahidullah.

The committee said the Covid infections are spreading at an alarming rate across the world, including the neighbouring country, India.

It expressed concern over the upward trend of coronavirus cases in Bangladesh.

The NTAC put emphasis on following the government guidelines to contain Covid and suggested taking legal measures such as conducting mobile courts to implement the guidelines.

It advised mass people, including students, to be vaccinated as early as possible.

The committee also suggested strengthening screening, quarantine and isolation at all entry points of the country.

There should be better arrangements at hospitals to ensure treatment for Covid patients, read the release.
