The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has recommended inoculating Covid booster doses to people aged above 60 and frontliners in the wake of rapid transmission of new variant Omicron.

The advisory committee came up with the recommendation at its 49th meeting on Saturday, with its Chairman Mohammad Shahidullah in the chair.

The senior citizens and frontliners who received the two doses of vaccine at least six months ago, will get the booster dose, the committee recommended.

At the meeting, the NTAC expressed deep concern over the presence of Omicron variant in the country.

In order to contain the spread of the new variant, the committee suggested taking steps to limit public gatherings, meetings and rallies.

In emergency cases, the committee said, online meetings could be arranged instead of in-person meetings.

The NTAC also recommended strengthening screening, quarantine and isolation at all entry points of the country.
