NU cautions students against using phones during exams

The National University of Bangladesh (NU) has issued a warning to the students, reminding them to not bring mobile phones inside exam halls, an action for which they can face expulsion and other punitive action.

“Recently, incidents of students entering the examination hall with mobile phones, and using phones or other electronic devices to cheat in examinations, has increased alarmingly," read a NU notice issued on Tuesday, signed by Examination Controller Badruzzaman.

As per the rules regarding examination discipline, NU students are banned from bringing mobile phones with them inside the exam halls. If an examinee is found with a mobile phone, he/she will be expelled, and his/her examinations for the year will be cancelled.

The same steps will be taken against any student found cheating in the examination using a phone. Additionally, the examinee will be barred from taking the examinations next year.

In both cases, the mobile phone has to be returned to the examinee after recording proof of them carrying the phone, or using the phone for cheating.

Any phones belonging to students cannot be confiscated, the notice mentioned. However, a written record of any student carrying or using a phone inside an exam hall must be kept for posterity.
