Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Faruque Hassan on Wednesday underscored the need to achieve readymade garment sector’s vision by nurturing young and creative people.

He said, “The disparity between the skills provided by our educational institutions and the requirements of industries is substantial. Establishing a strong linkage between academia and industry is crucial.”

The sector is currently undergoing a significant transformation primarily fueled by technology and digitization. Innovations and technologies are revolutionizing the fashion experience, reshaping industry practices, and introducing sustainable production processes, he added.

BGMEA president came up with the remarks at a launching ceremony of the 8th season of Textile Talent Hunt (TTH), an initiative of Textile Today Innovation Hub, at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

Textile Today Innovation Hub is a talent grooming competition for the undergrad students studying in textile, garments, fashion and any discipline.

Tareq Amin, Founder & CEO, Textile Today Innovation Hub moderated the event while Faruque said that as the RMG industry of Bangladesh aims to achieve $100 billion export target by 2030, they have to nurture young, creative and experienced minds to enable them to take the leadership.

Mohammad Ali Khokon, President, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) said Bangladesh’s apparel export industry wants to achieve $100 billion export by 2030.

“As the BTMA president I am really proud that we have a very strong backward linkage textile sector to support our apparel sector. To sustain and enhance this success, we require exceptionally brilliant minds who will lead us into the future.” Textile Talent Hunt initiative is such a platform – which nurtures innovativeness and implements innovations in the textile and apparel industry, he added.

Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) Dr Shah Alimuzzaman said the Textile Talent Hunt (TTH) 2023-24, just like in previous editions, will foster innovation across the entire industry by nurturing future leaders and addressing current challenges through inventive solutions. BUTEX is committed to extending all the necessary support for the success of this event.

This time TTH is looking for enthusiastic and challenge loving students to transform them into Innovation Masterminds (IM) through training and grooming, idea audition, aptitude test, and supervised research or innovation project execution.

An estimated 2000 students from universities across the country are anticipated to participate in the competition. Approximately 100 among them will be selected to national level, where they will undergo a transformation into Innovativeness Masters (IMs).

This programme welcomes undergraduate students from any discipline who are eager to embrace “innovativeness” as the key driver of their competitiveness.
