Nurun Nahar joins BB as DG

Nurun Nahar joined as the deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank for a three-year term on Sunday.

According to a press release, before becoming the deputy governor, she served the central bank as a senior executive director.

Nahar is the second woman to chair this post of Bangladesh Bank and Nazneen Sultana being the first female deputy governor of the banking regulator.

Earlier, on April 12, the government appointed Nurun Nahar as the new DG of the central bank.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved a proposal of the Financial Institutions Division operating under the Ministry of Finance, to appoint her based on her qualification and work experience.

Nahar was appointed under the condition of suspension of Post Retirement Leave (PRL) as per article 10 (4) of Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972. She will be appointed for three years on a contractual basis.

She was born in 1965 in Balia village in Dhamrai of Dhaka. Before joining her new position, Nahar served in various important departments since joining the central bank in 1989 as an assistant director. She was promoted to Executive Director in 2019 and has 34 years of work experience, including four years as executive director at the Central Bank. 

Nurun Nahar obtained her BSc degree from the University of Dhaka in 1984 and MBA degree from the Asian University of Bangladesh in 2001.
