People are boycotting those who boycotted the 12th national election, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Sunday.

“People are casting their votes spontaneously which proves the defeat of BNP and like-minded parties. This proves that voters have boycotted them,” he said while talking to reporters after casting his vote at Udayan Pre-Cadet Academy Centre at Basurhat Municipality in Noakhali at around 10:15am, reports UNB.

He said the festivity, enthusiasm and peaceful voting atmosphere has proved that people have rejected those who resorted to sabotage and violence.

President of Basurhat upazila unit of Awami League and Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and local leaders and activists of Awami League were present there.

Quader has won five consecutive times in this constituency. He has been serving as the road transport and bridges minister since December of 2011.

Noakhali-5 (Companyganj-Kabirhat) constituency has 132 polling centres, and the number of voters is 4,05,715. Among the voters, 2,10,388 are men, and 1,95,327 are women.
